Local Conference Committee

Gifted education in Australia has strong ties to the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. In 1983, at the 5th World Conference in Manila, Australian delegates realised the establishment of a national body was in order to report on the interests of Australian gifted children both nationally and internationally. Over the past three decades a stimulating environment across Australia for researchers, educators, and students has emerged. Evidence of gifted education can be found in all states and territories, however consistent application of policy and practice remains a challenge.

UNSW also has a long tradition with gifted education beginning with Miraca Gross’ work focusing on profoundly gifted children and radical acceleration and the establishment GERRIC. Today, UNSW’s School of Education continues this tradition offering postgraduate programs in gifted education, while GERRIC provides parent programming and student programming for students in Years 3–10.

The aim of the 2017 conference is to incorporate the rich Australian traditions and advances in gifted education within a setting that engages in discourse and debate from around the globe in gifted education to highlight the work of researchers and practitioners. Over the next two years, this website will evolve as the plans for Sydney 2017 become reality. Watch this space for updates!
